I’ve now worked in the SEO industry for nearly 20 years. My interest in the digital marketing world started when I sold Apple Mac computers to graphic design agencies who were transitioning into the online marketing space. I bought myself an Apple computer and started learning graphic design using applications like Photoshop and Quark Express and then learned about building websites using Dreamweaver and built my first e-commerce website in 1993. I then later learned about PPC which led to an interest in how to get websites ranking organically and so my passion for SEO was born.
Originally starting SEO in a self-employed capacity as a freelance, I’ve now worked for several digital marketing agencies and gained experience in both e-commerce and lead generation websites. In particular, I’ve had success in many different niches including home and garden, automotive, legal/financial, fashion, manufacturing, and waste management. With my background in web development, I feel Iām skilled in all aspects of SEO including technical, off-site and on-page SEO strategies.
I have two children, so I have quite a busy family schedule, but whenever I have spare time, I like to go mountain biking, explore my local area around the Ribble Valley, and sometimes take trips to Wales and Scotland. Most recently, I’ve started playing golf again after giving up 13 years ago.

It’s been nice getting client results early on in my career with OYS, but having moved into the āHead of SEOā role itās also been rewarding learning new skills when it comes to managing the larger team and helping the agency improve processes and efficiencies.
After a busy day at OYS, the day is not over for me. When I get home, I like to spend time with my children, which usually involves doing homework and getting baths ready before the next school day. As we have a four-day working week at OYS, I try to relax on Fridays if possible, and weather permitting, Iāll usually try to play golf or go mountain biking.
There isnāt one particular project that I’m proud of but more of a case of many. We have had some great success with one particular e-commerce project which took them from practically zero visibility to page one Google for some very competitive terms within their niche, which led to over +200% increase in Organic traffic and +400% increase in revenue. I’m equally proud to be part of the OYS team and be involved in some of our own internal projects which have helped improve agency efficiencies.
I think the team at OYS are all pointing in the same direction and all striving to work hard together to help our clients achieve a strong ROI from their marketing budgets. The team at OYS has a vast amount of experience in their individual areas and offers skills that far exceed those of any other agency.
The last podcast I listened to was āHow the Fxck SEOā which gave insight into how an SEO expert took a SAAS business from $1.6M to $17M revenue in 16 months. It’s interesting to hear the take of other SEOs and listen to the different types of strategies they adopt to achieve results. I donāt suppose there is a single right way of doing things in SEO…
