My career started after I almost started a Graphic Design degree at Edinburgh University, but at the last minute took on an apprenticeship at a local design agency. I have always had a real drive to work and found that I learnt on the job much easier than in a classroom. This kicked off a new-found love for taking people’s brands and businesses to the next level with the power of design.
From here I went on to work with some amazing people, who taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I could never learn outside of an agency environment. From coffee shops to football clubs, I’ve worked with my fair share of eclectic clients.
Before I joined OYS, I ran my own digital agency from the beginning of 2020 (terrible time to be newly self employed) — which had its highs and lows, but one of the most important lessons for me was: Don’t take it personally. It’s never that deep.
During my 3-day weekend (4 day work weeks ftw), you’ll probably find me hanging out in a tattoo studio, indulging in retail therapy, or – my guilty pleasure – cleaning the house. There’s something about a clean house, tended garden, and some incense that almost makes me wish I was a 50s housewife — but then I remember I can never sit still, and actually love my job.
Connect with me:
A lot of my social feeds – especially TikTok – push design and marketing inspiration content to me, so I’m hardly out of the loop when it comes to new trends. It’s such an amazing tool.
I don’t think anything will ever beat going to another country with a group of almost 20 strangers within a week of starting at OYS. I don’t think there could have possibly been a better ice-breaker though (and there was a lot of ice in Warsaw!).
The hour commute, although it sounds boring, is actually a great way to just have some time to myself when I finish work. Whether it’s listening to a podcast, audio book, or belting out power ballads, I usually get home pretty unwound.
This is always a really tough question because I spend about 50% of my time either reading or watching films, so I could never pick a favourite. I tend to love anything apocalyptic or ‘end of worldly’ — not sure if that shows my true disdain for being surrounded by the general public.
Ask questions. You might feel silly for asking seamlessly obvious questions, but it’s better than being clueless after spending hours on a project.
