Hello! I’m Matt, one of the Content Writers at Own Your Space.
Alongside my amazing colleagues in the Content team, I write up the words that inspire, convince, and convert our clients’ customer base.
When I’m not splitting my time between friends and family, you’ll find me sat in a big dark room with a bunch of strangers staring at a large screen for about 2 hours at a time. I then like to read magazines, listen to podcasts, and watch YouTube videos based on the stories that take place on those large screens.
Outside of that, I’m a thorough homebody, pottering around my house, wiping down surfaces, and giving belly rubs to my Labradoodle, Millie, on the frequent occasion that she demands it.
I’ve studied the written word for as long as I’ve been able to – from English Literature and Creative Writing to Journalism, and now Marketing. I started my career as Editor of a national B2B construction magazine, writing or overseeing the articles that were sent to letterboxes across the country every month.
I’ve since been in Digital Marketing for about five years and am deeply interested in how words can prompt, persuade, and press upon a person, often without them even knowing it…

I’m most proud of my work for a Victorian-era British candle company that wanted to blend the classy, elegant tone of voice with their new website’s clean, more modern design. Not only did I learn to write in a whole new TOV, but I also dived headfirst into new formats of content writing like email, which I’ve gained a huge interest in since.
Newsletters! I’ve subscribed to a few email newsletters that dish out the latest in digital marketing – from Google Algorithm updates and case studies to persuasive writing styles and techniques.
I know it’s controversial amongst many die-hard writers, but ChatGPT! I don’t understand how I got anything done without it, frankly. From research to inspiration, it’s an amazing tool for any marketer, and anyone not using it to make their day-to-day more efficient is doing themselves and their teams a disservice.
I have a personal music blog where I catalogue the music I’ve enjoyed over the month. I then write up how I found it and why I like it. It’s a great way for me to reflect on all the new music I discover over time, and it gives me a closer relationship with it and the artists behind it.
I know it’s cliché, but it’s got to be my colleagues. No matter how unglamorous or demanding the work is, I’m always grateful to be surrounded by such a diverse group of people with different senses of humour that bring sides out of me I didn’t even know existed.
